are we there yet?

Once upon another time...

Donkey:

Are we there yet

?
Shrek: No.
Fiona: Not yet.
Donkey: Okay. Are we there yet?
Fiona: No.
Donkey: Are we there yet?
Shrek: No!
Donkey: Are we there...yet?
Shrek: Yes.
Donkey: Really?
Shrek: NO!
Donkey: Are we there yet?!
Fiona: No!
Donkey: Are we there yet?!
Shrek: No, we are not!
Donkey: ARE WE THERE YET?!?!
Shrek and Fiona: NO!!!!!!
[Pause]
Donkey: Are we there yet?
Shrek: [talking over Donkey] Are we there yet?
Donkey: Hey, that's not funny.
Shrek: Hey, that's not funny.
Donkey: Oh, that's really immature!
Shrek: Oh, that's really immature!
Donkey: See, this is why nobody likes ogres!
Shrek: See, this is why nobody likes ogres!
Donkey: All right, your loss!
Shrek: All right, your loss.
Donkey: I'm just gonna stop talking!
Shrek: Finally!
Donkey: But this is takin' forever, Shrek, and ain't no in-flight movie or nothin'!
Shrek: The kingdom of Far Far Away, Donkey. That's where we're going. Far...far...away.
Donkey: All right, all right. I get it! I'm just so darn BORED!
Shrek: Well, find a way to entertain yourself!
[Silence]
Donkey: [pops his lips, then again, and Shrek grows more impatient, then Donkey pops his lips a third time]
Shrek: [restraining temper] Oh! For 5 minutes...could you not be yourself? [exploding] FOR 5 MINUTES!!!
[After another silence, Donkey pops his lips one last time]
Shrek: AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH!!! ARE WE THERE YET?!?!
Fiona: Yes!
Donkey: Oh, finally!

This is a famous convo between Shrek, Donkey and Fiona on Shrek 2 adventure; the 2004 animated film sequel to the previous film Shrek in which Princess Fiona's parents invite her and Shrek to dinner to celebrate her marriage, not knowing that the newlyweds are both ogres.

24 hours. 350 miles. His girlfriend's kids. What could possibly go wrong?
Coming soon... by plane, by train, by car.

And these are some of the not-so-famous tag lines from the 2005 movie Are We There Yet; a road trip of Nick, the playboy bachelor with the two kids of a divorced mother whom he’s dating. The trip was a disaster at the outset but with the usual happy script, it ended with “they lived happily ever after".

Here's my time...

What is the commonality between the two scenes? The agreement that I am referring to has something to do with the question “Are we there yet?” Both scenes are inquiring about “Are we there yet?’ the fixation of getting to a place in an instant that we usually overlooked the details and pleasure of the means of getting to that place. Just like with me, I usually get bored while travelling that is why I always schedule my trip during the night so that I could kill time by dozing off, though I usually having a hard time too. I always think of the destination place and the activity that I would do after I got there – the usual future-oriented maniac. I am not talking literal here, of going to a place and continuously asking, “Are we there yet?” This is about life. When I was a kid, I always think of being old enough to do the things that id love to do in my own. When I entered high school, getting the right vocation was my priority, and when I stepped into the world of college, the dream of having my own life was the biggest deal of all. I always look and savor the future – my destination. However, unavoidable things may happen, anytime, anywhere. So instead of imagining your destination place or securing your journey, it is better to enjoy the moments of your life, every moment...for you do not know when are you going to retire. I have learned that lesson already. That is why though I am living with a slump-like situation right now, I am trying to bite into the bright side of everything. Life goes on and life is too short. Instead of questioning “Are we there yet?’, it’d be better to enjoy the scenery on the way.

Every moment counts and you cannot turn back time…Spend your time with your kids – they grow fast and they will never be kids again. Enjoy the time with your mums and dads – it is the best gift you could give to them and you don't know when they'll be gone. Kiss and say I love you to everyone you treasure – take every opportunity to make them feel loved and with that you'd ENJOY every moment of your life.

It is not bad to feel sorry and sad, but a little mourn each day is enough. Be happy and enjoy the ride!!!

Thanks .....

tama sunny, wag ka masyado magmadali. ako, i've always believed that the journey, in addition to the destination, is also part of the fun. when I travel, I walk or take a mode of transpo na kita ko labas, para me-nejoy din ang scenery diba? sounds too literal, but it also goes to show my outlook in life.

enjoy the journey sunny. happy day to you! :)
