Eary signs that Christmas is coming

Happy Sunday people! I woke up quite early today though I fell asleep close to the crack of dawn already. I went to the mall and had my early strolling. Actually I was asked to buy some goodies for my niece because today is Sunday, and Sunday is a treat day. I went to Goldilocks and bought egg pie, chocolate mouse and raisin choc chips. Afterwards, I took a peak at Booksale but I got overwhelmed again – as usual, and spent quite a long time browsing some rotten books. As a Sunday treat for myself, I bought a book by Edward Aubyn in a rock-bottom price. A made a walk along the mall’s ground floor and I noticed the ornaments in green, blue, and red hanging on the walls and the lonely-merry Christmas songs airing around. OMG! Christmas is coming…then this thought comes into my mind: My take “5” early signs that Christmas is coming

Here’s my take “5”
1. The radios are now playing “White Christmas”, Pasko Na Sinta ko” and likes that really make a sudden gush of Christmas spirit and whether you deny it or not, Christmas song really makes a chill at your spine because it brings back the memories hushing up at the back of your mind. Christmas songs are very catching; at the bus, train, cabs, and everywhere, the sounds humming in the air are kinda’ pinching a part of your hear that makes you feel ouch or wow, yeah. Another tangible sign of Christmas that is very undeniable are the Christmas ornaments. I remember when I was young, when the first “ber” month, which is September, turns in the calendar, she would start preparing and installing the Christmas decors - the Christmas tree, the lanterns in different colors and sizes, the garlands with cherries and pines, the scented candles, the glittering Christmas lights, the figurines of Santa, angels, and snowman, and of course, the Belen. I was always the one who assembled our 8foot high Christmas tree while my mum was the one who sprinkled the colorful ornaments on it.

2. Let’s talk about the Season, whether there is a global warming or not, we, the Filipinos usually associate the start of Christmas during the “ber” months and when the wind blow starts to become breezy or I may say, vice versa. The early morning is starting to become nippy, so no need for air conditioners and sometimes you even need to turn off the electric fan.

3. Another apparent sign that Christmas is coming when you start to worry about budgeting and listing the gifts for your fella. Born as the youngest in the family, budgeting or listing gifts never bugged me at all, the only thing I knew when I was a kid is receiving gifts, hehehe. But now I am starting to get worry about it. My gifts for my family are not a problem at all because I could share with my sister. But the gifts for my special “some ones”, lol is the big problem for a bum like me.

4. Emotions. My number four early sign of Christmas is the mixed-emotions. There are people who hate Christmas. These people might have no good memories with the season or I may say they had“not-so-good” memories during this very special season that they always associate Christmas with the “not-so-good” past. But chewing over this emotion, it only proves that we bracket Christmas together with merry celebrations amongst our family, friends and loved ones and the downhearted feelings is only a product of this unfulfilled or messed up outlook. So whether we are sad, gloomy, or bitter about the season, it only proves that we always wanted to be happy with this very special season. There’s always tomorrow and it’s not too late to actualize your wonderful Christmas. Besides Christmas is when you feel the true spirit that it’s offering to us. So if you’re feeling “emo” and you keep on denying about the season, it only swells your stimulation about the season.

5. And my number five early sign of Christmas is when you realized the above lists and you start to feel the glow of sharing and the happiness about life in gratitude to the life and love given by the main Celebrant of the Season.

Living with a 5-year old kid

Here's my take 5 hilarious experience living with a 5-year old kid.

1. Mastery in Literature:

From Aesops to Disney fairies, from Alice to Zena, from Angels, cherubim, and saints up to mummies, Dracula, and leprechauns. The options are limitless and the plot is infinite. You ought to load yourself with stories and tons of stories, just like the minstrels with their instruments while reciting their tales and imaginations. There was a time wherein my 5-year old niece asked to give her a bedtime story, my stored knowledge in stories was really exhausted and my mind was really vacant. I left with fabrication – again, which I usually do. My fabricated story, that my nice had bought, goes like this “One night, on a far, far away land, there was a kid living with his uncle. The kid asked his uncle to tell him a bedtime story, but his uncle was very busy with his work that he couldn’t longer take a sleep or a nap. Then, there was a bedtime fairy who came to their door and with a slashed of her magic wand, the uncle fell into a deep sleep like this…” with that ending, I didn’t move and assumed that I was sleeping. Yippe, my nice bought it.

2. Art Attack:

Not just the dandy heart shapes, the cut out figures, or the coloring book. For a 5-year old kid, art is an expression and things are all floating in the magical realm. Uncle, draw me a castle, a pony, gargoyles, the princess in the tower, the prince frog, a witch, an ant, an octopus…etc. Buy a 5-year kid a water color and it will only last for a day. Buy a 5-year old kid a box of modeling clays and you’ll get awed by the abstract results. Buy a 5-year old kid a set of 100 crayolas and get worried of finding the sticks everywhere. The most hilarious request by my 5-year old niece was when she asked me to draw her imaginary friend. What the…?

3. Be better than Bob the builder:

Construction is a major subject with a 5-year old kid. Make the sticks to walk, build the empire state with the boxes, make a dream castle for the Barbies, and the cycle of construction, renovation, demolition and re-construction.

4. Move over Tyra:

Ever dream of being a model? Well, if you’re living with a 5-year old kid, get ready to hit the catwalk. Here’s the usual routine every time I’m working with the computer, she’ll come to me and will start the “hair-styling”- as she calls it, with her Barbie Doll’s hairbrush and will wrap up the hair styling with a ponytail to my crowning glory. While my fingers linger the keyboards, her hands delicately applying make-ups to my face. And Viola, after I’m done with my work, she’s also done with her beautification. Now, she’ll bring the mirror and will make a long, long, long laugh at me.

5. The theater actor:

My niece loves the animating story of her toys. She’ll speak in behalf of Barbie and me for Pony or Woody wood Pecker. And the story is again limitless, from mushy encounter to loving tragedy, from horror to comical...etc. But the acting that I learned to my 5-year old niece was to shout “ouch” and cry. Yep, whenever my niece and I play wrestling, injury is inevitable and my acting craft emerges during the crying times. If she hits the ground I should simultaneously say ouch and cry with her. The purpose? To make her believe that I got much trouble than hers. “Shrugs”, life’s like that, lol.

Forget fatal attraction; smell is the most important characteristic for a woman choosing a romantic partner, according to the new book by Rachel Herz, an expert on the psychology of smell. In her book, The Scent of Desire: Discovering our enigmatic sense of smell, Herz looks at the role of scent in sexual attraction, based on years of research.
“Since at least the time of the Egyptians, we have been adorning ourselves with scent for the purpose of attraction. Men and women differ in terms of how much of a role scent plays in their sexual attraction towards one another,” says Herz. “For heterosexual women, it turns out to be the number one physical factor, as well as the most important social factor, aside from pleasantness. And this isn’t about avoiding a man who smells ‘bad’, but rather about being especially attracted to a man who smells ‘good’.
From your nose to your heart (via your brain)
The connection between our sense of smell and our emotions is founded on the evolution of our brain with the two being intrinsically linked. Smell and emotion are located in the same network of neural structures, called the limbic system. The limbic system is the ancient core of the brain, sometimes called the rhinencephalon – literally, the ‘nose brain’. “A primitive olfactory cortex was the first fabric of our brain and from this neural tissue grew the amygdala, where emotion is processed,” says Herz. “In other words, the ability to experience and express emotion grew directly out of our brain’s ability to process smell. “Without an amygdala we cannot experience or process emotional experiences, we cannot express our own emotions, and we cannot learn and remember emotional events. Brain imaging studies have shown that when we perceive a scent the amygdala becomes activated and the more emotional our reaction to the scent, the more intense the activation is.
It begs the question: would we feel emotion and attraction if we didn’t have a sense of smell?
Sniffing out a potential partner
“Body chemistry plays a large role in terms of whom we are sexually attracted to and our noses speak loudly to our souls. All of us, and women in particular, end up relying quite deeply on our noses for some of the most fundamental decisions in our lives; in particular, whom we choose to have children with,” says Herz. “The sense of a lover being ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ for you may feel like intuition, but it is real – and your nose knows it. There is something very important and biologically sound going on when a woman finds a man’s smell delicious or distasteful. The specific men a woman will be attracted to depend greatly on the compatibility between his immune system and her own and this is reflected in a man’s unique body odor.
“Women are also very attracted by artificial fragrance and a man can mask his natural body odor with fragrance and lure biologically compatible women to him that way.” “There is research showing that not being on the pill is best for picking biologically suitable mates,” says Herz. “A woman’s sense of smell is better than a man’s, but only during those few days within a woman’s monthly cycle when conception is possible. During the rest of her cycle she is no better than a man at detecting scents, and during menstruation, her ability to detect odors is often worse than a man’s.

Eyes, colors , and likes

From the moment you wake up in the morning to the time you go to sleep at night, your eyes are acting like a video camera. Everything you look at is then sent to your brain for processing and storage much like a video cassette.
How Your Eyes Work? Take a moment to locate an object around you. Do you know how you are able to see it? Would you believe that what you are actually seeing are beams of light bouncing off the object and into your eyes? It is hard to believe, but it is true. The light rays enter the eye through the cornea, which is a thick, transparent protective layer on the surface of your eye. Then the light rays pass through the pupil (the dark circle in the center of your eye) and into the lens.
Color Perception: Light as we see it runs from Ultra Violet (where it leaves our perception) through Violet, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and ultimately to infrared, whence we again cannot see it. You can 'loop' this spectrum by letting the red go further from orange into violet mode. It is more like a color wheel continually flowing than individual colors. All colors can be darkened with black or lightened with white. But are black and white colors? Yes -- ALL colors mixed together make black, and, if done with light, all colors together make white light.
Overall, the only perfect color is white -- and all the other colors are breakdowns thereof, in some combination. How many distinctions in color can a human eye see, varies greatly from individual to individual. Some person may be able to perceive 128 shades between red and orange. Someone else may only be able to see red, red-orange, and orange. Some people may see the color brown in burgundy, others only dark red/purple. Some of us are better able to filter colored light out of solid color and see color more distinctly. Other things, like fog and moonlight, tend to filter all color out, while still keeping things very beautiful. The only whole color, however, is white. Everything else is a breakdown of white. Mix all the colors up and you get black.

Our eyes are wonderful blessings from God. See how complex it works and how it gives wonder to our life – from taking photographs to seeing our loved ones, to the colors of the rainbows, the green fields, the wonderful colors of sunset, and to everything around us.

1. The faces of my loved ones
2. The sunrise
3. The eyes of an innocent child
4. Anything green (excluding my gray matter)
5. My own face – no matter how “whatever” my look is... i still love to look at my own face because it reflects to the biggest and unconditional Love of GOD.

With all these wonderful things, it is our obligation to take care of our eyes. My lil' advise - Don’t spend too much time at your computer, if it indispensable, take a few minutes to rest your eyes from time to time, at least every two hours and do some eye exercise after wards. Like moving your eyes up and down for several times, then left and right, then clockwise and followed by counter clockwise. This will help you to reduce some eyestrain and stress too.
